TRAINING WORKSHOP ON GIS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITY FOR RURAL AND URBAN COUNCILS
Preamble
Rural and Urban Councils are concern with social-economic activities, physical planning of human settlements and human environments. The primary objective of local government officers is to improve public welfare, which includes education, sanitation, environment, health etc. and their effects on social and economic activities. Local government authorities are responsible for planning and development of land resources such as water, forest, parks and agriculture and conserving natural environment. The aim of this workshop is to provide district, urban and municipal officers the knowledge of GIS for planning and management of various LGA sectorial activities including, agriculture, environment, education, transportation, healthy and water supply.
Workshop Objective
The objective of the training is to provide GIS skills to officers working in rural and urban districts, government and NGOs working with local authorities to enable them implement efficiently and effectively their daily activities. Leaning outcome
At the end of the course trainees will be able to:
~Create baseline data using GIS tools (GPS, mobile phones and image) for field visit planning and development intervention response.
~Employ GIS to provide targeted farm advisory services such as (fertilizer application, pest control irrigation planning and new crop location)
~Perform Monitoring and Evaluation of Extension Efforts such as impact of subsidies utilization (seeds and fertilizers) and village extension training performance
~Planning for resources allocation such as waste disposal, water harvesting area, allocation types and areas of soil and water conservations, location of schools.
~Application of GIS as an early warning and surveillance tool for location fire outbreak observation post, disease and poaching monitoring (view shed and NDVI)
~Planning solid waste drop-off location using and optimizing waste collection using network analysis
